If you wish to create a new DT Max client database, enter the desired location (folder name) while at the login screen. DT Max will check to see if a database already exists at that location, and if not it will create the required folder and start a new database.

The folder name that you choose for the location of the new database will become the base of a tree structure. DT Max will automatically add subfolders for the T1, T2, and/or T3 programs, and for each tax year as appropriate.

Your new database will be encrypted to provide extra protection for your clients' data. You will be prompted to choose an encryption password (from 6 to 20 characters), and enter it in the two boxes displayed on the screen. If you do not enter a password of your choice one will be generated automatically, though this will be less secure than a password that you chose yourself.

All your client files will be encrypted with this password. This will help protect the integrity of those files in the event of unauthorized people gaining access to your computer or network.

Before continuing, make sure you note the password you have chosen, and store it safely as it is the key to your clients' data. This password will only be required when performing certain maintenance tasks on your database such as changing your company's policy on using personal passwords. It will not be required for everyday use of DT Max.

Once you start entering data in this new database you should review the security protection by selecting Security system in the Preferences menu.
